June 10 - Up and Away!

Our flight left Minneapolis-St. Paul on time and we landed in O'Hare about 5:30. With a slight delay, we boarded Aer Lingus and headed "across the pond". The plane was very comfortable and the staff were very friendly and accomodating. Meg and Will were seated together and I was one row ahead of them, sitting next to a young man who had just finished his junior year of college in Dallas and was heading home to France by way of Dublin. The temperature in the plane felt like the inside of a refrigerator (I loved it!), but my seating partner spent most of the flight huddled under a blanket. He came onto the plane dressed for Dallas weather (t-shirt and shorts) and wasn't prepared for the unseasonably cool weather and plane. Jac was very patient helping me with the in-flight video equipment (I couldn't figure out how to turn it on!). After getting that figured out my next challenge was  - - the headphones! (I know I'm getting old when I have trouble figuring out how to get the headphones on.) I'm used to the ear bud style and these were bigger and had some kind of a lever that fit over the ear. It was bad enough I didn't know how to turn on the video, I sure didn't want to ask him how to put on headphones! I looked around and figured it out eventually - but couldn't help but wonder what the 3 twenty-somethings in my row were thinking as they watched this all take place. The flight went smoothly - probably one of the best I've ever been on. I slept through the night (thank you Sister Mary and Colleen for the melatonin tip!) and woke as we were descending into Dublin. We all felt great - rested up , ready for our adventure to begin as we lugged our bags to the next stop - - (cue ominous music) the car rental kiosk.
