Friday, June 17 - The Road Less Taken

Westport is a little slice of heaven on earth! It has is it all - shops galore, pubs of course, friendly and welcoming citizens, a beautiful location on Clew Bay, and one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've had the pleasure to sleep on this trip! Our hotel is located near the heart of town and a small, picturesque river. It's been just one photo op after the other today! Here are some of my favorites - -

Meghan, Molly, and I did some shopping while Will and Tom walked around the city. The shopping is just fantastic here - so many wonderful treasures. We try to buy locally and from small, family-owned vendors whenever possible, so our euros benefit the local economy. We've found some very unique items. One of the most hilarious things I saw today was the following on a post card:

It's Official - Jesus was IRISH!
    * He had 12 drinking friends.
    * He trained as a carpenter to work on the buildings.
    * He was unemployed.
    * He lived with his mother until he was 33.
    * He thought his mother was a virgin.
    * His mother thought he was God.

After shopping we met up with Tom and Will and headed down to the quay to do some sightseeing. On the way back, we consulted our maps and decided to take a more scenic walk back to the hotel. Somewhere along the way, we "took the road less traveled" - actually what turned out to be a rutted road to nowhere. However, the road to nowhere ended up being a great detour and allowed for some pretty wonderful photo ops.

We eventually found the right path which, after a beautiful walk through the woods, led us right to our hotel. :)
